Jeffery Vaughn, born on November 3, 1980, served in the United States Marines for 4 years.

Rank/ position: E3.

Stationed/ deployed: Stationed at Cherry Point, North Carolina, and was deployed to Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

When asked what inspired him to join the military, Jeff mentioned At first it was GI Joe then Rambo. "That was before I saw a Marine Corps commercial. Then I just wanted to be one of the few and the proud."

His role or job during his service was Aviation Electronics Technician (Communication, navigation, and radar technician for the EA6B Prowler).

When asked if he remembered his first day of service or boot camp and what it was like, he said it was chaotic when he first got to San Diego and got off the bus, having to rush to the yellow footprints. "Then when we got our haircuts for the first time," he wrote. "I ended up having to do push-ups until everyone else finished their haircuts because I laughed at someone who left their glasses on and had about 6 inch-long strands of hair left where his eyeglasses went over his ears."

Jeff served during Operation Southern Watch, The Persian Gulf War, and Operation Northern Watch, The Iraq War. During his time in the Marines, he traveled outside of the U.S. to Spain, Ireland, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey and inside the U.S. he traveled to San Diego, CA, and Cherry Point, NC.

His favorite or proudest memories from his time in the military was being part of the history setting maintenance period from May to October 2001 and then in November 2001 being awarded the Electronic Warfare Squadron of the Year.

Jeff mentioned attention to detail and semper gumby (always flexible) are things he learned in the military and still guides him today.
